This book deals with impromptu holdout methods, that is, methods of sleeving and retrieval from the sleeve, based on new handling principles. The methods are easy. The basic method can be learned in five minutes. It will take longer to master, but it does not start from a difficult move like a side steal or angle palm.

The manuscript you are now reading extracts just the technical material from Sharpe's book. Patter is inserted here and there to put effects in context, but in the main this is a volume which examines only the handling of Hofzinser's card tricks - the ideas and subtleties which greeted card men in 1931. At times I have inserted brief connecting passages that are not in Sharpe's text, and at times I have made use of easier alternative handlings suggested by Sharpe. The wording of essential moves is essentially that given by Sharpe.
