One of histories great autobiographies, Jean Eugene Robert Houdin who was called the father of Modern Magic, discarding flowing robes, and in it's place appearing in Evening Dress of the time period. With a scientific mind he created many new Magic feats, and on the ancient ones he so improved them as to appear new Magic feats, many of these Magic effects are performed by Magicians to this day. A genius, his many talents extended to remarkable scientific and mechanical experiments, stating with Automata, Clock Making, an early Electrician, an Ambassador for France, etc. A fledging young Ehrich Weiss so admired Robert Houdin that he added an "I" and changed his name to Houdini. A fascinating book that started many an aspiring youngster to the ranks of full time professional Magician! Illustrated with some chapter heading drawings, and the endpapers have a drawing of an Invitation Ticket to a performance of Robert Houdin.
